Galette des Rois
Let’s celebrate the new year like the French!
The French have been serving the galette des rois since the 14th-century. Traditionally, it’s served on January 6th, the 12th day of Christmas, to celebrate the Epiphany, a religious feast day commemorating the arrival of the Three Kings to the manger where Jesus was born. Today, it is eaten throughout the month of January and is simply a festive way to celebrate the new year with family and friends, regardless of religious background.
Perenn’s galette is made with house-made puff pastry, frangipane (creamy almond filling) and raspberry jam and topped with 24k edible gold leaf.
How to serve:
Slice the cake into equal pieces depending on your party size. We suggest one galette per 6 people.
The “King” is represented by a fève (once a lima bean). Ours is a ceramic rabbit made exclusively for Perenn by Wedge Ceramic Studio. The lucky person who discovers the fève, will be crowned the King (le roi) or Queen (le reine) of the day and gets to wear the golden paper crown that comes with each galette.
Perenn’s Galette des Rois is available for pick up beginning on 12/31 through 1/30.
